ADHD & Aggression: Your Angry Kid

When you feel like you are walking on eggshells at home.

The extreme mood swings of ADHD children can make it feel like you’re walking on egg shells! They are so sensitive– both emotionally and physically. It’s like they can get angry in a heartbeat. It can make life so difficult for everyone around them.

ADHD kids can be so much more irritable. They are hyper sensitive to all 5 senses which increases anger, frustration, and can cause less stable moods throughout the day! Sometimes it might feel that they don’t try at all. Sometimes it might seem they are doing everything they can, but they still get angry.

➤ Increasing emotional IQ

Your child reacts so intensely to things- it makes no sense. The reaction and the emotion do not match, especially to the situation. They just straight up overreact. For your child- this might be yelling, hitting, throwing things, or just full-blown exploding. It is overwhelming walking on egg shells to avoid these blow ups and you’re looking for practical solutions to manage the blow ups. A key part of therapy for angry ADHD children is to focus on emotional intelligence. We learn to manage their sensitives, increase awareness of what comes before the blow ups and teach you as the parent to advocate for your child in their toughest moments. This includes teaching the emotional vocabulary to the physical responses they have. We also keep track of the heightened emotions and learn to identify the emotional responses. We also help you become aware of how their 5 senses impact their behaviors and how to avoid potential explosions.
