Kara Ricker, LCMHCA

Hi, I'm Kara and I can be your child's therapist in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Here are a few things about me.

  • Child-Centered approach
  • Neurodivergent-Affirming
  • Mom to a toddler
  • Utilizes creative and strengths-based interventions

I love working with ADHD and Autistic kids who are struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, and feeling different from their peers. Many of the children I work with spend their days trying to fit in and hold it all together, only to come home feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and misunderstood.

➤ Is this you?

  • Your child works so hard to fit in at school, but by the time they get home, they are emotionally drained and struggling with big feelings.
  • Your ADHD or Autistic child seems to have a hard time connecting with peers. They want friendships and connection, but often feel different, left out, or misunderstood.
  • Your child struggles with anxiety and self-confidence. They are constantly worrying about getting things wrong, disappointing others, or not measuring up.
  • Your child appears to be doing well outside the home, but at home they experience frequent meltdowns, emotional outbursts, or shutdowns that leave everyone feeling frustrated and exhausted.

➤ How can I help?

  • I create a safe environment where children can be themselves without the pressure to mask who they are or fit into someone else’s expectations.
  • I incorporate your child’s interests, strengths, and unique personality into treatment to help them build confidence, emotional awareness, and meaningful connections with others.
  • I help children develop practical tools for emotional and sensory regulation while learning to better understand themselves and advocate for their needs.
  • I utilize a combination of child-centered, structured, and activity-based interventions tailored to your child’s age, personality, and goals.

If you are looking for my credentials, here they are:

  • Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte
  • Working towards certification as a Registered Play Therapist
