Geoff Oman, LCMHCA
Hi, I'm Geoff and I can be your therapist in Huntersville, North Carolina.
Here are some important things to know about me.
- Straightforward approach
- Parent of 2 2E children
- Extrovert
- Utilizes a solution-focused approach
I love working with ADHD kids who hold it together so well at school that teachers all think they do not need their IEP/504, but at home they fall apart because of anxiety and anger. I want to help!
➤ Is this you?
- You feel awful for your son. He works so hard to hold it all together while at school….or sometimes doesn’t. You cringe every time you see the school calling, worried he’s done something again. He can blend in and put a mask on at school to get by, but inside he is barely hanging on. At home, homework takes hours- hours of refusal, defiance and avoidance, but you know that he is capable of so much more if the school could just see where he needs support.
- The school says your son is absolutely fine and that you’re overreacting. Others have said it is a parenting issue. Some say it’s the screens, but you know it is so much more. Your son’s ADHD is eating him alive, and he masks so well that others can’t even tell how much he is struggling. You just want him to be successful, but nothing you try sticks.
- Your spouse thinks you just need to be tougher and everything will be fine. Your son yells, curses and sometimes threatens you. You’re afraid this could turn into something more as he grows up and you don’t want that to happen. You don’t know what else you can do- but you’re ready to try.
➤ How can I help?
- I use solution focused techniques to help your son become more aware of what he needs at school- to bridge the gap between what the school isn’t seeing and what you are experiencing at home.
- We will focus on brain based ADHD information to help you be an advocate for your child. This leads to a better understanding where we can best support your son in meeting his full potential of learning.
- We will strategize parenting solutions to build confidence, decrease anxiety and reduce anger.
