ADHD counseling for ADHD Student Athletes

Supporting ADHD athletes push through their limiting thoughts.

Your ADHD student athlete always had it all together but recently, things just don’t feel right. They are stressed and overwhelmed in a way that you have never seen before. They have always been able to balance that academic + athletics workload; juggling school, practices, games etc while showing dedication to their sport and striving for success in the classroom. But now, it’s different. They’ve told you they want to quit. Or, it doesn’t really matter anymore. Or, why should I try (with academics) I’m going to get a full ride scholarship! The discipline, time management and resilience that your child has always embodied seems to have slipped away. That competitive focus on performance and personal growth is gone!

Beyond just playing a sport, being a student-athlete comes with a range of experiences and challenges. You know they love their sport but their priorities have switched. Friends are a priority. Maybe they are dabbling in partying? School is falling behind and in general, it just feels like they are falling apart!

It takes a student athlete to know a student athlete. Our prior athletes get the unique challenges of supporting today’s athletes work through the grime. The limiting thoughts, lack of confidence and self-esteem don’t have to take a hit.

➤ Here’s where we can help:

  • Is your student-athlete feeling overwhelmed trying to balance school, sports, and everything else on their plate?
  • Does your child struggle with the pressure to perform, whether it’s from coaches, teammates, or even themselves?
  • Are you noticing signs of burnout, stress, or anxiety creeping in as they juggle their responsibilities?
  • Is your athlete experiencing confidence issues that are affecting their game and overall well-being?
  • Have injuries or setbacks taken a toll on their mental health and motivation?
  • Do they have trouble managing time, staying organized, or keeping up with academics alongside their sport?
  • Are you as a parent feeling unsure how to best support your student-athlete without adding to their stress?
  • Has the college recruitment process created extra pressure, uncertainty, or self-doubt?
  • Is your child struggling with team dynamics, social pressures, or navigating friendships outside of sports?
  • Are they having a hard time adjusting after a major transition, like switching teams, changing schools, or ending their athletic career?
