What does Anxiety in Children due to the Coronavirus look like:

Here are some ways your child may be expressing the anxiety they are feeling because of the confusion and uncertainty of the coronavirus:

  1. Isolating Themselves

Children may start isolating themselves away from friends and family members because of the anxiety they are experiencing. They also may have heard you should reduce interactions with others during this time for health safety, so they begin to isolate themselves completely because of this fear.

2. Behavior Changes and Acting Out

Children may begin to act out and show changes in their behavior as a way of expressing their anxiety about the Coronavirus. They may start getting in trouble at home or school. We often see that children being to show more dramatic behavior when their anxiety is heightened.

3. Physical Symptoms

You may see your child complain about frequent stomach aches, or other aches in their body. If your child shares these complains, there is a possibility they are experiencing the physical symptoms of anxiety.

4. Upset or Nervous about Changes in Routine

Your child may begin to start getting nervous about possible changes in their routine. They may start questioning what is going to happen to their spring break because of the Coronavirus.

5. Refusing to go to School

Your child may start refusing to go to school due to being anxious about what may happen. They may be hearing frightening things at school leading them to believe that school is unsafe for them. They also may be trying to gain a sense of control about where they want to be in order to feel safe.
